This case study helped me explore how something as routine as a survey can become ethically problematic. Analysing examples like Cambridge Analytica and the Flo app, I saw how informed consent, data transparency, and participant trust are often undermined in subtle ways. This made me reflect on my assumptions when designing user-facing data collection tools. I now understand that stating privacy terms is not enough; the clarity and intent behind those terms also matter.

The unit also raised questions about data monetisation and how computing professionals must remain vigilant even when operating within legal limits. Socially, the misuse of health-related surveys illustrates how communities can be harmed when their data is repurposed without a clear benefit. This unit pushed me to reconsider survey design as both a methodological and ethical task..
